Happy Be-lated Halloween! Sorry it took me so long to find the time to get this up. Johann had the most memorable Halloween yet. He decided to be a rainbow butterfly this year. When we went shopping at JoAnn’s Fabrics, Johann chose the 12 colors for the wings. Other women in the store pretended to shop nearby to listen in. “Mommy, we have purple, red, orange, yellow, green and pink. We need aquamarine next, Mommy.” They couldn’t hide their amazement or giggles. He enjoyed watching my progress on his costume and frequently told me what an excellent job I was doing.
We went to the orchard again for more gourds, apples and both pear and apple cider. Their painted gourds inspired Johann to paint his own. So while I continued to sew Johann’s costume, Eric and Johann painted faces and colors on the family of pumpkins and all of the gourds. That particular painting session led to the tiger stripes pictures Eric has already posted. I finished Johann’s costume Thursday night. Whew! We found out about trick-or-treating (“trick-for-treats” as Johann put it) at Olde Mistic Village at the last minute and decided to go there instead. All the shops got involved and the employees passing out candy were in costume. Johann had a great time.
Afterward we came home for a quick bite to eat and then dashed off to the Halloween parade. A firetruck led the way and police stopped traffic for an hour so anyone who came could walk down Main Street and over the drawbridge to the firehouse for refreshments. A second firetruck brought up the rear. Johann was so excited and kept saying, “Look at me! I’m a butterfly!” Since trick-or-treating replaced nap time, Johann fell asleep on the walk home. We waited on eating the candy, which has ended up more as a math lesson than as something to eat. That’s our boy!
There are a few more images in the Halloween Gallery also, and Eric will probably add 2 or 3 more as he has time.
