Johann and Tammy replaced the bunny that has decorated our door for about 6 weeks now with a flight of butterflies. After Tammy showed him how to make one, Johann went to town. He also decided to layer different colors of tissue paper to create more varied colors and add polka dots – “because butterflies have lots of color and spots too!”
It has in general been butterfly month here. We stumbled across a series called Backyard Safari and recorded a few episodes, including “Butterflies”. I think we have watched it almost everyday for the past 3 weeks now. The good part is it is an excellent series and Johann has it memorized – including all the detailed information they provide about butterflies.
We also have five painted lady caterpillars that just today entered the chrysalis stage. When we got up this morning one was already a chrysalis while three others were in various stages of forming, and the last was just attaching itself to the roof of the cup they are in. Johann has been very excitedly watching the caterpillars and checking their progress–they are real eating machines–numerous times every day since we got them about a week to ten days ago. We’ll let you know when they emerge…
