Raining Bamboo

Johann and I had a fun outing this afternoon. We gathered 25’ bamboo poles in the pouring rain. Not that the rain was part of the plan, but it worked out pretty good.

We set out before the rain came down, and arrived at the bamboo field just as it started sprinkling. After driving over, Johann wouldn’t hear of leaving without removing at least some of the bamboo for Mrs. L. So we sorted out another 10 or 12 of the already cut canes as the skies literally began pouring on us in big fat drops. In his rain gear already, Johann grabbed up two of the poles one in each hand and led the way out of the back yard and around to the car. I followed with another five or six of the canes. Once we had all the canes down to the car, Johann helped me trim off the branches and cut the canes down to twelve foot sections which would fit in and on the car. All told it took us about 40 minutes, by which time I was soaked to the bone – idiot me went out in shorts, t-shirt, and sandals with no rain gear at all.

When we got back to Mystic and parked, Johann decided since we were already wet we should do some puddle jumping. Why not, logical argument and all. So we spent the next 20–30 minutes jumping in every puddle we could find in the Art Center parking lot, talking with a few passers by, and a chat with the parking lot gate attendant. Needless to say when Tammy opened the door and found us both dripping wet she was, if not surprised, very amused. Johann had informed the attendant that he likes to jump until his rain galoshes are filled with water so it takes both Tammy and I to get them off with a “schluuuuuuuurppppppppp!” sound. (He has that sound effect down pat.) Sure enough as we pulled him out of his boots in the hallway each one made the sound as Johann laughed and giggled.
