Snow in Mystic

Santa's Tug

Friday late afternoon it finally decided to snow for us. We were in Old Saybrook (about 20 miles away) selling Johann’s old crib, when it finally let loose. It really dumped down hard too. The timing was the worst part of it, it hit right in the middle of rush hour. Police had to shut down stretches of the highway to let the road crews get the roads plowed and sanded. Our drive home was a three and a half hour ordeal of 10–15 mph driving with 30–40’ visibility. A ton of accidents on the roads and too many people who ran off the road.

Of course Johann was terribly excited to be able to have snowball fights and go sledding. After dinner we headed outside. I pulled him around town on his sled (which everyone else thought was grand and cute). We made snow-angels at strategic points in town (in front of the book store, the art center…) and had numerous snowball fights. We were outside for about an hour. He decided then that it was time for some hot chocolate.

Yesterday was more snow and heavy winds. We made the walk across the street to check out a greens sale at the Art Center but the winds were cold and biting, so Tammy and Johann decided (wisely) to spend the rest of the day inside. I went out to pick up advent candles and fixings for homemade marshmallows (for the hot chocolate). I also took a few pictures from around town of the snow.

All told we got a bit over a foot of snow—perhaps as much as 18 inches. The roads are pretty clear now, but there is still plenty of snow out for making some more snow-angels and some snowmen. Which we are off to do right now.
